While I was listening to Sidewalk Prophet’s Change this Heart, so many thoughts came my mind. I was really moved by the line “without you I am nothing but a weak and dying man” and it brought me to these four simple truths about our walk with the Lord.
1. We often take God out of the picture – When we’re facing problems and difficulties in life, we tend to rely on our own strength instead of God’s. We tend to work it out on our own without seeking God and the help from other believers. What we fail to see is that the more you think it’s hard to escape, the more we should be closer to God.
“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him”. – James 1:12
2. When your relationship with the Lord is not Ok, it will Reflect in your Life – There are so many factors in our life that can get affected when there’s a problem with our walk with the Lord . Small decisions lead to mistakes, mistakes lead to sin and sin leads to an unrepentant heart. We easily distracted, annoyed, impatient, stressed out and we lose self-control. Even our relationships with the people around us get affected and our priorities in life suddenly become meaningless.
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind”. – James 1:2-8
3. We no longer put importance in our priorities – All of us, consciously or unconsciously, have priorities. Our priorities affect the way we think or act. They determine the direction of our lives. But if God is not our main priority anymore, then you know that something’s wrong with the way we think or act. A person who puts God down their list of priorities is a person with a crowded mind. He never thinks of the circumstances of his/her decisions and the results of his/her actions. Once we put God at the top of our priorities, everything will follow.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you”. – Matthew 6:33
4. We miss God’s blessings because of our own hard headedness – When we think of God’s blessings, we often think of the tangible things. What we don’t see is blessings are more valuable if we think that God alone is the ultimate blessing you can have. The sweetest moments are those when we are intimate with him, when we can hold on to the hope that can only be found through God, when we have a peaceful mind and experience the unspeakable and overflowing joy because of God. But we miss all of these because of our stoned heart. We become unfaithful and we struggle to drive our own life. We remove God from the picture without even knowing that this is the worst decision we can ever make. We need to remember that God alone is our only hope and in Him we can find true happiness that can never be found anywhere else.
“In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider: God has made the one as well as the other, so that man may not find out anything that will be after him”. – Ecclesiastes 7:14
As we mature in faith, we realize how insignificant we are. How small we are compared to our God, yet His love towards us is vast and incomparable. Just like what the song says “without God, we are nothing but a weak and dying man”. Pray that God will change your heart. I pray the same prayer with you. I don’t know what you’re facing right now but I know that God will never give you what you can’t bear. Keep the faith and let’s continue the race that God has already set before us.
